This once vibrant cultural community of Overtown was devastated by the affects of Urban Renewal projects of the 1960's which brought interstate right through the heart of it. However, the introduction of the new Brightline station on the boundary of Overtown and Downtown Miami offers new possibilities through transit-oriented design and community-center programs to revitalize its history.

Lockheart Regeneration Project + Affordable Housing Competition

Students: Jenna Renée Ims, Jake Wardell, and Ka'Nard Robinson

Professor: Frank Bosworth

Course: Advanced Graduate Studio III

Passing through Lockhart from Orlando, it would be impossible to gather that such a desolate place once contained a rich industrial history. It itself has become more of a transitional threshold than a destination. This project looks at regeneration through the lens of urban planning as a means of reorganizing a town, adding density, and re-establishing a spirit of place.
